In 2000, Richard Trombly covered local events for the
Associated Press as a freelancer. Some of the bigger stories he worked
on included the following:
King Abdullah II, King
of Jordan
Trombly talked to the king about Jordan's role in the Mid East peace process
and the expansion of women's rights in Jordan. The interview was conducted
at him at Deerfield Academy, a school in Western Massachusetts that the
kind had attended as a student.
Rexhep Meidani, President
of Albania
Trombly conducted a one on one interview with Meidani in Worcester, MA,
home to a large Albanian poulation. Meidani discussed his role in bringing
law and order back to the small Balkan nation. Meidani said that he supports
freedom for Kosovo but dispelled the rumors of plans for a "Greater
Albania."
Dennis Leary, actor
Trombly interviewed Leary about a fund he had set up to raise money for
fire departments after the deaths of six Worcester, MA firefighters in
a warehouse fire. Leary's cousin, Jerry Lucey and Lt. Tommy Spencer, a
childhood friend, were among those who lost their lives in that fire.
Molly Bish kidnapping
Trombly was the AP correspondent covering the Molly Bish kidnapping in
the week following her disappearance. She
was abducted from a pond in Wales, MA, where she worked as a life guard.
The story received national attention.
